Dawn is hands-down one of our most special yarns and one of the most unique yarns on the market. About 90 miles away is , Sally Fox's farm dedicated to raising organic, bio-dynamic wool and cotton to create the finest, Earth-friendly textiles. Sally has been dedicated to preserving and growing naturally-colored cotton for forty years. Dawn originally came in six natural colors (Lighthouse, Milk & Honey, Seal, Compass, Oyster, and Brown Sugar) created by combining naturally-colored wool with naturally-colored cotton. This is an incredible representation of that beauty that can be achieved by California-grown fibers.
The only natural color we have left from this special project is Compass. We find it too beautiful to dye on. It is a rich shade of brown wool with flecks of red cotton.
All colors that have been dyed, are done so using leaves and roots, in our Oakland studio. This yarn is milled organically at a cooperative in Vermont.
Dawn's composition of wool and cotton makes a wonderful fabric for those who want to knit and wear wool, but enjoy a cooler, cotton-based fabric.
